As of January 2013 the Angus Orligno 500 wood pellet boiler is exempt from smoke control areas.
As of January 2012 the Angus Super and Angus Orligno 200 range of wood gasification log boilers are exempt from smoke control areas.

The ranges have passed tests to confirm that they are capable of burning an unauthorised or inherently smoky solid fuel without emitting smoke. The “Clean Air Act 1993” which provides the current rules governing the emissions of smoke. The Act allows a local authority to declare districts to be a smoke control area with the power to impose fines of £1,000 on domestic properties emitting smoke. Burning fuels not authorized as being “smokeless” in an appliance that was not permitted to burn unauthorized fuels is not allowed. Appliances with a proven capability for burning unauthorized fuels without producing smoke are classified as being an “exempt appliance”.

The exemption for the log boilers is based on installations with accumulator tanks with a 50:1 ration of thermal store to kW output.
The exemption for the pellet boiler is based on installations with accumulator tanks with a 20:1 ration of thermal store to kW output.

Any customer in a smoke exempt zone is encouraged to batch burn where possible throughout the year rather than allow the boiler to slumber as this will reduce any smoke emissions.

Eco Angus Ltd wood gasification log boilers and wood pellet boilers meet new air quality requirements

New air quality requirements were announced by the government on 27th February 2013 as part of changes to the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme (RHI).
The new RHI requirements will set emission limits from new installations at 30 grams per gigajoule for particulate matter PM10 and 150 grams per gigajoule for nitrogen oxides with evidence that these limits are being met to be sent to regulatory body Ofgem. These requirements are then set to be reviewed again by the government in July 2015.

Eco Angus Ltd is one of the first companies in the biomass industry to have all eligible boilers entered onto the SEDBUK database (seasonal efficiency of domestic boilers in the UK) as a high efficiency boiler. The advantage of listing our boilers on this database will be that this will enable you to obtain an improved EPC rating (energy performance criteria) if you come to sell your home at any stage.
