Chimney Exhaust Fan
The Chimney Exhaust fan is used for forcing the combustion gases up the stainless steel twin wall flue. The combustion gases can be up to 380 degrees Celsius. They are designed to work efficiently in either the horizontal or vertical position. They are to be mounted into the flue.

Where wood burning boilers are located in an area where escape of combustion gases is deemed undesirable it is recommend to fit a Chimney Exhaust fan.

These can be wired separately from the boiler and can be turned on as and when you are filling the loading chamber of the wood burning boiler. When you have completed the loading and shut the door the fan can then be switched off. You can also switch the fan on when you are starting the fire. By leaving the bottom door ajar whilst leaving the loading chamber door shut you can open the chimney flap and switch the fan on to aid the draw. This helps especially if you have a short chimney flue with limited draw.

It is imperative that you ensure you shut the chimney flue flap each and every time after re-loading. The only time you have the chimney flap open is when you are starting a fire or during the process of re-loading, Failure to do this can have serious consequences as the heat from the fire can cause irreversible damage and pose a grave fire risk.

We supply the following chimney fans depending on the rear vent at the back of the Angus Super or Angus Orligno 200;

WKO180 for 18kW Angus Super and 18Kw Angus Orligno 200
(they all have 180mm rear vents). WKO200 for 25kW/40kW Angus Super and 25kW/40kW Angus Orligno 200 (they all have 200mm rear vents).

WKO210 for 60kW/80kW Angus Super and 60kW/80kW Angus Orligno 200 (they all have 210mm rear vents).
WKO300 for 100kW/130kW Angus Super (they all have 300mm rear vents).

We advise the following stainless steel twin wall flue sizes;
150mm stainless twin wall flue
for Angus Max-04 38kW to Angus Max-05 48Kw and for Angus Orligno 500 25kW
180mm stainless twin wall flue for Angus Evo EV-03 17kW to Angus Evo-06 41kW Angus Max-06 58kW to Angus Max-08 77kW Angus Super 18kW
200mm stainless twin wall flue for Angus Max-09 86kW to Angus Max-10 95kW Angus Super 25kW to Angus Super 40kW Angus Orligno 200 18kW to Angus Orligno 200 40kW
250mm stainless twin wall flue for Angus Super 60kW to Angus Super 80kW Angus Orligno 200 60kW to Angus Orligno 200 80kW
304mm stainless twin wall flue for Angus Super 100kW to Angus Super 130kW

There is a graph in the operating instructions of the Angus Super and the Angus Orligno 200 with height recommendations for your twin wall stainless steel flue to ensure you have the appropriate chimney draft (approximately 20 Pascals).

The minimum we would recommend as a general rule of thumb is a twin wall flue with a 4.5 metre vertical climb as recommended by Hetas.

It is recommended to order the chimney exhaust fan as this will help when starting the boiler when cold or when reloading the boiler.

The actual vent sizes are as follows;

WKO180
Large vent OD 186mm ID 182mm (mounted on boiler flue)
Small vent OD 180mm ID 176mm
Chimney fan size Box 240mmx240mmx240mm overall 450mm long vent lengths 105mm long
The boiler's rear vent is 179mm +/-1mm

WKO200
Large vent OD 206mm ID 202mm (mounted on boiler flue)
Small vent OD 200mm ID 196mm
Chimney fan size Box 240mmx240mmx240mm overall 450mm long vent lengths 105mm long
The boiler's rear vent is 199mm +/-1mm

WKO210
Large vent OD 216mm ID 212mm (mounted on boiler flue)
Small vent OD 210mm ID 206mm
Chimney fan size Box 240mmx240mmx240mm overall 450mm long vent lengths 105mm long
The boiler's rear vent is 209mm +/-1mm

WKO300
Large vent OD 306mm ID 302mm (mounted on boiler flue)
Small vent OD 300mm ID 296mm
Chimney fan size Box 340mmx340mmx300mm overall 520mm long vent lengths 110mm long
The boiler's rear vent is 299mm +/-1mm

The larger vent can be fitted directly over the rear vent of the boiler or if installed on the vertical stack of a stainless steel twin wall flue it is important to ensure that the larger vent is at the bottom and the smaller vent at the top. This will ensure that the fan blows the gases in the correct direction.

All our wood burning boilers must be fitted with an appropriately sized stainless steel twin wall flue (single wall flue is not suitable due to condensation problems).

We would suggest the Nova twin wall flue range and this is available from www.fluepipes.com.
It has the ability to have a 3 metre unsupported final section if required that can handle 100mph winds.

Please point out that you are ordering an Angus Super Gasification boiler and you will be able to obtain discounted rates on this particular range. The full contact details are as follows; Docherty Group Bristol, Flue House, Portway Trading Estate, Portview Road, Bristol, BS11 9LQ
Tel 0117 982 8252
Please make sure you contact the Avonmouth branch only and if you are placing an order put it on the 'Eco Angus Pro Forma account' so that you obtain the preferential rates for the Nova SM range.

Generally the standard connection to the rear vent of the boiler will be with preferably a 45 degree elbow with a 135 degree tee or a 90 degree tee before the vertical stack with a condensate collector at the bottom of the flue.

Ideally you need to sweep your flue 2 to 3 times a year to remove any fly ash deposits. Fly ash should be removed on a monthly basis from the bottom of the tee section.

It is also possible to have a flue thermostat fitted to the chimney flue.
The flue thermostat will start the pump as soon as the temperature rises to a pre-determined level after starting a fire. When the log fire goes out the flue thermostat will turn the pump head off on the Laddomat as soon as the temperature of the flue reaches the pre-determined level as the flue cools down.
